In a bid to further empower and engage youth for the Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games and build even more buzz in the lead up to the games in 2010, the Singapore Youth Olympic Games Organising Committee and the National Youth Council launched a seed funding initiative called the Singapore 2010-Young ChangeMakers Grant.
Worth $300,000, the grant aims to encourage those between the ages of 15 to 35 to come up with ideas and events that will celebrate Singapore 2010 with the community. Approved projects can get up to $4,000 in funds in the Create Action Now programme. Other event planning support and resources are also available for successful recipients to help them in the organisation of events.
The progress for the games also took another step forward as the sport pictograms representing the 26 sports for the inaugural Youth Olympic Games were unveiled in May 2009. Derived from the official Singapore 2010 emblem ‘the Spirit of Youth’, the icons serve as a symbolic representation of youthfulness, adventure, openness and fun. In April, a website (www.singapore2010.sg/whyohgee) for youth was launched to build publicity and awareness among youth through content created for and by youths.
