All That Matters

Matter is a Singapore-based clothing label founded in 2014 by Singaporean Ho Renyung and Spaniard Yvonne Suner. It is a socially conscious business that brings together rural artisans and urban designers to create garments made from fabrics handprinted and handwoven by communities in Asia.

Ho was inspired to start Matter after a 3,000km road trip in 2014 across India to raise funds for the country’s charities. She fell in love with the nation’s textiles and decided to partner artisan communities, whom she got to know during the trip, to produce clothes in a variety of fabrics, prints and styles.

The artisan communities are involved in different parts of the production process, such as colour making, block carving and block printing. The clothes produced, ranging from pants and scarves to tops, are biodegradable and dyed with non-toxic dyes.

The clothes, available online and in stores in Singapore, are also shipped to more than 40 countries, including the United States, Canada, Australia and the United Kingdom. In the long term, Matter hopes to build a network of artisans across Asia, looking first to Indonesia, Laos and the Philippines.
