s the year draws to a close and we take stock of the many challenges that lie ahead, there is no better time to take inspiration from the heartwarming stories of Singaporeans, working together with friends from the international community to build a better world.
The inaugural International Conference on Cohesive Societies hosted by Singapore drew global thought leaders, who discussed the pressing need for tolerance in multicultural societies, and the possible solutions to the growing threat of extremism. Dialogue among countries are being undertaken not just by governments, but also our people. For the second year running, Asean Youth Fellows from the private, public and people sectors came together to build on their commitment to effect positive social change while addressing shared challenges.
One such challenge is the creation of an inclusive environment for the elderly and the differently-abled. To this end, an award-winning inter-generational kampung sets a new benchmark for cohesive living. While infrastructure is important to an inclusive society, architect Michael Ngu presents a compelling case for also growing a caring culture to complement the bricks and mortar. In the same vein, Singaporean couple, Rose Sivam and Chirstopher Choo, show how they care by hosting free dinners replete with entertainment for hundreds of guests with special needs.
Our feature on SIF Citizen Ambassadors, who help to shape new realities while building greater intercultural understanding through their volunteering efforts, throws the spotlight on Annie Yeoh, a strong advocate of good business.
